Pendragon Stages 2010

By Barry Lindsay

Spadeadam were well represented at the local tarmac rally, ten of the Ninety cars had SMC members in, and onto that, SMC were also running two stages and helping out on others. A new format this year meant crews set off much earlier so that four extra stages could be added at Lowther. Crews made their own way to the rally start at Warcop for the early setoff on a damp, cloudy morning.

Stage 1 Dom & Allan were 5th fastest setting a time of 10m33, Keith & Dave got 10m 43, Barry & Michael who struggled to get heat into the rear tyres got 10m 55 just ahead of David & Fiona on 10m57. Geoffrey & Caroline got 11m10, 2 seconds ahead of Peter & Paul. Chris & Andrew got 11m 26 then came Barrie & Andrew on Barrie’s first stage on route notes getting 11m 57, then Craig & James on 12m 29. One person with no luck on this rally is Tim; this year retired on stage 1 with various problems including Gearbox, Wheel bearing and clutch.

The navigator has to solve clues which reveal the route and ‘navigate’ their driver to the designated place within a specified time.

These events are usually 50 -60 miles long and cost just £7 to enter.

Summer Autotest & BBQ

By Barry Lindsay

The third autotest of the year was held at Longpark Farm, with a large stubble field at our disposal. The problem was what do we do with such a large area?! With all ten tests set up on the Saturday afternoon, it would ensure non-stop action on the Sunday afternoon. With brilliant weather it was shades and suncream rather than wellies (well, except someone!). 10 competitors took part with 9 tests then a BBQ, then the final test.
Test one, Barry was quickest with 55 seconds followed by Neil Thomlinson on 57 seconds, then Geoffrey Harkness on 59 seconds. On the rerun of this test times tumbled as the stubble scrubbed off to the compact surface. Barry was quickest on 54 seconds, then Neil T. and Phil Jobson on 57 and Geoffrey on 58.

Test Three, Neil T. was quickest with 1m 08s, then Ian Robinson giving the “new” Skoda a thrashing on 1m 09s, along with Phil also on 1m 09s. Simon Jobson and Barry both got wrong directions getting 1m 33s. The re-run Barry started the fight back, quickest with 1m 06s. Phil matched his first run of 1m 09s, then Neil T. on 1m 10s, then John Ross on 1m 11s.

Kames Rally Time Trial

By Barry Lindsay

The Kames rally Time trial on the 17th July was the 3rd time trial of the year. East Ayrshire Car Club run four events in the year. For some reason the events don’t attract a big entry, 19 crews entered the July event. Barry & Michael Lindsay were seeded at no 4 with Geoffrey Harkness & Caroline Lodge at 5 in the Corsa. The way they work is that everyone follows the organiser car round the two laps of the circuit. Competitors get three goes at the stage with the best time used in the results. There are four variations during the day so that equals 12 runs with four times to count. Ideal for getting to the car, testing something different or just for a blast!! Continue reading
