Tyneside Stages 2010

The seventh round of the AS Performance championship & a round of the SG Petch championship crews headed to do the Tyneside Stages on Otterburn. 79 crews took part with four of them Spadeadam crews, Barry & Michael Lindsay were seeded at 23 in the 106, David Hope & Fiona Gourlay at 39 in the Subaru. Geoffrey Harkness & Caroline Lodge were at 44 in the Corsa then Peter Taylor & David Robson at late entry at 73, but running slotted in, in the thirties.

Stage 1 Barry & Michael were on a mission to catch a class rival who for a “joke” had been seeded infront. Despite pushing hard over the 9 mile stage the crew only got 24 sec off them!. 10th Overall fastest time of 8m 19, Peter & Dave got 8m 46. Then the start of a daylong battle between Geoffrey & Caroline who got 8m56 and David & Fiona 1 second behind.

After a quick service it was back for a rerun. Barry & Michael went 4 seconds slower this run giving more caution in a couple of bits. Peter went quicker getting 8m 35 just ahead of an improving Subaru of David & Fiona on 8m 37. Geoffrey & Caroline on 8m 45. Crews headed straight to Stage 3 starting at Redesdale Camp to go down over the jumps. Barry & Michael got 8m 05. Peter & Dave got 8m 29 with Geoffrey & Caroline only 2sec behind, then David & Fiona on 8m 43.

Service again then back to a re-run of stage three, Barry & Michael again went slower by 3 seconds with 8m 08. Geoffrey & Caroline and also Peter & Dave got 8m 23 then Dave & Fiona on 8m 36.

Straight to stage 5, this was stage 1 but the other way. 8m 23 for Barry & Michael then Geoffrey & Caroline with 8m54 only a second ahead of David & Fiona. Peter & Dave got a stage maximum when the gear linkage broke leaving them stuck in a gear.

Back to service before stage 6 which was a repeat of 5. Barry & Michael again going slower with 8m 27, Geoffrey & Caroline got a time of 8m 45, two seconds ahead of David & Fiona. Peter getting another maximum but got it sorted before going straight onto stage 7. The other way over SS3, finishing over Redesdale jumps. Barry & Michael getting 8m 05 ahead of the fast recovering Peter & Dave with 8m 12. Geoffrey & Caroline, David & Fiona both getting 8m 45.

Service again before stage 8, repeat of 7. Peter & Dave were quickest with 8m 04, one second ahead of Barry & Michael, Geoffrey & Caroline getting the better of David & Fiona by 3 seconds.

The final stage was 6 & 7 joined by a short link giving 17 miles always the highlight of Otterburn rallies. Peter & Dave were again quickest with 15m 27. Barry & Michael got 15m 30 despite loosing time settling the score with the class runner up. Setting off 30 seconds ahead the 106 got passed them ¾ of the way through. Only to be repassed on a long uphill section but then couldn’t get back passed but followed them very closely. Geoffrey & Caroline got 16m 20, 5 seconds ahead of David & Fiona who broke the rear diff on a tight triangle. They made it to the finish but with a lot of clanking and banging.
