Round 4 of the SG Petch ANECCC championship was the Brick & Steel Border Counties. Based in Jedburgh with a very compact route with four stages totalling 40 plus miles in Wauchope & Keilder forest. Four Spadeadam crews entered the event with upto 1600 cc and historic cars running infront of the main field brought out a lot of 1600 cars. Peter Taylor & Andrew Roughead were seeded at 107 in the Fiesta R2 fresh from his strong performance at Epynt the week before. Phil Jobson & Jerry Hettrick were at 111 in the MKII, Barry & Michael Lindsay, brought the 106 out on a very rare outing into the woods, were seeded 120.
In the main field Allan Cathers was with Rory Young in the Evo at 17.
Crews left Jedburgh via the back roads as the A68 was closed that weekend bringing them to Wauchope. Rory & Allan were quickest of the Smc members with 7m 35 (16th fastest overall) Peter & Andrew were the fastest 1600 with 7m 59. Barry & Michael struggled with a wrong rear suspension setting making the backend bounce a lot got 8m 28. Phil & Jerry got 8m57 despite a quick overshoot which saw the MkII temporarily disappear up a slip road.
Stage 2 was the big Broomylynn Stage, 17 mile in length and a mixture of surfaces. SMC marshals in this stage with Barry Armstrong stage commander. Rory & Allan got 18m 35, with Peter & Andrew getting 19m 51 despite a rear brake problem while Barry & Michael felt happier with the car on 20m 07. Phil & Jerry arrived at the start to find the gearbox had stuck in 4th gear, they opted to retire rather than to enter the big stage. Service at Redesdale camp followed. This brought the crews to forest drive for a 13mile loop stage. Rory & Allan getting 13m 58 then Peter & Andrew on 15m 38 despite a spin, then Barry & Michael on 16m 01 also giving extra caution on this stage, being the one which they rolled on a few years ago.
The next and final stage was back at Wauchope on the other side of the main road. Rory & Allan got 6m09 but time lost on road sections and service put them OTL. Peter & Andrew battling for the class win went into the stage equal on time with his rival but Peter & Andrew beat them by 6 seconds with 6m 41. Barry & Michael had a good run on the stage which climbs a hill then has a fast flowing descent, they got 7m 05.
